The regular season got underway for every team in the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association this past weekend, as league play began with four conference series. Four teams were able to make a quick impression, as Adrian College, Lawrence University, MSOE and newcomer Lake Forest College all posted weekend sweeps.
The Bulldogs were able to win their pair of games on the road, as the battle of preseason No. 1 vs. No. 2 took place at Marian University. AC was able to start the campaign with a 4-1 victory and then closed out the weekend with a 9-1 win that ran their overall winning streak to 28 games and their league win streak to an amazing 37 in a row. In the new USCHO.com national poll that came out today, the team moved up a spot to its highest-ever ranking at No. 5 (up from No. 6 a week ago).
Also of note in the poll, MSOE received 10 points and Lawrence received five. This marks the first time in league history that the MCHA has three teams in the poll and/or receiving votes.
Lawrence grabs the early lead in the North Division, posting a pair of wins over Concordia by counts of 8-1 and 4-2. The Raiders moved to 4-0, posting wins of 4-2 and 5-1 over Northland. Lastly, the Foresters made quite a first impression, beating Finlandia on the road by scores of 7-6 and 3-0.
