Adrian College senior forward Sam Kuzyk (Winnipeg, Man.) has been selected as one of seven finalists for the 2011 Hockey Humanitarian Award presented by BNY Mellon Wealth Management.
The BNY Mellon Wealth Management Hockey Humanitarian Award is awarded annually to college hockey's finest citizen and seeks to recognize college hockey players, Division I or Division III, male or female, who give back to their community in the true humanitarian spirit.
"I'm once again extremely honored to be named among the finalists for the Hockey Humanitarian Award," said Kuzyk. "I know it wouldn't have been possible without the help of my teammates and coaches, so a lot of credit has to go to them. If you read about the other finalists you can see that they are all very deserving as well and its humbling to be named among them. Regardless of the outcome it has already been a great experience and I thank BNY Mellon Wealth Management and the NCAA as well."
Kuzyk has also done tremendous things on the ice as well during his career. He has played in 105 games and recorded 55 goals and 66 assists for the Bulldogs. Kuzyk has played in 22 games this season and tallied seven goals and six assists. This year's recipient will be introduced in an afternoon ceremony on Friday, April 8 at 6:30 EDT as part of the 2011 NCAA Frozen Four in St. Paul, Minnesota. Other finalists include Brooks Dyroff of Boston College, Alex Higgins of St. Michaels College, Aleca Hughes of Yale University, Tucker Mullin of St. Anselm College, Trevor Nill of Michigan State University, Whitney Pappas of Robert Morris University and Brigid O'Gorman of Connecticut College. Plenty of storylines remain in place as the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association enters the final month of the regular season. In the Southern Division, Adrian College and MSOE both swept weekend series to remain deadlocked heading down the stretch. The Bulldogs (6-1 and 9-2 winners over Finlandia) and Raiders (2-0 and 4-2 over Lawrence) are now tied at 12-1-1 in MCHA play and, coincidentally, 15-3-1 overall. A head-to-head series to close out the regular season looms the final weekend.

Adrian College senior forward
Kuzyk is equal parts humanitarian and enterpreneur, in that most everything he has organized he started on his own and virtually from scratch. He has dedicated much of his time and effort to raise money and awareness for the local Hickman Cancer Center. He has also engaged in countless other activities, such as Salvation Army Family Sponsorships, a fundraiser for Prostate Cancer Canada, and visits to local schools to read to students. Sam has been an MCHA All-Academic Team member for three years running.
