Marian advances to the MCHA Harris Cup Final for the second year in a row and will face a rematch with #5 Adrian College (22-3-1) who also had a 9-2 win over Lawrence in the first semifinal on Saturday. The Bulldogs defeated the Sabres, 3-2, a year ago to earn the MCHA's first bid into the NCAA Tournament.
It was senior forward Brendan Hull's (pictured) show for Marian as he had a hat trick and added two assists on the night. Hull scored Marian's first goal at 2:02 of the opening period for his 20th tally of the season from Dakota Dubetz and Tommy Fitzpatrick. Marian led 1-0 after 20 minutes of play. The Sabres scored five more unanswered goals in the second period to take a commanding 6-0 lead. Freshman Robbie Bailey scored his third of the year just 10 seconds into the period from Matt Burger and Lane Boswell. MU also scored at 4:47 as senior Justin Cormier scored the first of his two goals in the game from Tanner Burton and Matt Williams. MSOE then called timeout to try and regroup, but it took just a few more minutes for Marian to strike again. Dubetz' 15th goal of the season at 9:32 from Hull and Burger made it 4-0. Hull's second of the night came on the power play at 15:08 from Nathan Brummitt and Fitzpatrick. Cormier's 13th goal of the year at 17:18 from Williams and Todd Collins practically put the game out of reach. Junior Ryno Linder stopped the bleeding at 18:26 for his first goal of the year from Todd Krupa to make it 6-1 after two periods. Marian notched three more goals in the third as Hull got his 22nd of the year at 1:26 followed by Williams' 18th of the campaign at 3:48. The Raiders scored at 4:56 on the power play as Steven Shaffroth scored his sixth of the year from Michael Schenfeld and Michael Thompson. Marian scored with two seconds left on the power play as Fitzpatrick scored his fifth of the season from Hull and Dubetz. Josh Baker made 28 saves on the night to get the win (7-3). MCHA Player of the Year Connor Toomey had a rough night stopping just 17-of-24 shots. Chris Keller played the final 16:27 in net and made five saves for MSOE. Plenty of storylines remain in place as the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association enters the final month of the regular season. In the Southern Division, Adrian College and MSOE both swept weekend series to remain deadlocked heading down the stretch. The Bulldogs (6-1 and 9-2 winners over Finlandia) and Raiders (2-0 and 4-2 over Lawrence) are now tied at 12-1-1 in MCHA play and, coincidentally, 15-3-1 overall. A head-to-head series to close out the regular season looms the final weekend.

ADRIAN, Mich. - Marian University erupted for nine goals in a 9-2 win over Milwaukee School of Engineering in the second semifinal of the 2011 MCHA Harris Cup played at Arrington Ice Arena in Adrian, Michigan on Saturday night. The Sabres (19-7) avenged a pair of regular season losses to the Raiders as MSOE allowed a season-high in goals.
