The No. 11 MSOE Raiders opened up the weekend with an impressive victory, knocking off No. 4 Adrian College, 3-1, to earn their first-ever win over the Bulldogs. Adrian responded to earn the split, taking a 3-2 win the next night. The national voters took notice as well, with Adrian remaining in the fourth spot in today’s USCHO.com national poll and MSOE moving up to ninth to give the MCHA two of the top 10 teams in the country.
Marian University and Lawrence University both earned a pair of league sweeps this past weekend to give the MCHA even more national attention, as both the Sabres and Vikings are receiving votes in today’s poll as well.
Marian took care of Finlandia, winning 5-3 and 4-2 to improve to 4-0 in MCHA play, 5-1 overall and remain a point ahead of the Vikings in the division. Lawrence posted victories of 5-3 and 6-2 over Northland and is now 3-0-1 in conference action and overall as well.
In the fourth league series played this past weekend, Concordia University earned its first victory of the season, splitting with Lake Forest College. The Foresters won Friday, 6-3, but the Falcons responded with a 5-2 win on Saturday at the Bradley Center.
Players of the Week -Concordia University Falcons sophomore forward Russell Johnson (Monticello, Minn.) is the MCHA Player of the Week for his role in getting CUW its first victory of the season. The PE/health major recorded just the second hat trick in program history, scoring once in the first period and twice in the third against Lake Forest. He had the game-winner and also added an assist to his night on the ice.
-Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders senior goalie Connor Toomey (Burlington, MA) earns the MCHA Defensive Player of the Week award for helping the Raiders to their first-ever victory over Adrian College (had been 0-18-1). Not only did he post 49 saves (.942 save % in two games) and a 1.50 GAA, but his win Friday was career victory No. 47 to top the all-time MSOE career list. -Other nominees: Jameson Raymond (Lawrence), Mitch Kriz (Marian), Michael Schenfeld (MSOE)
-Lawrence University Vikings freshman forward Gustav Lindgren (Stockholm, Sweden) is the MCHA Freshman of the Week for his offensive output in the sweep of Northland. On Friday, he scored his first career goal and added an assist. Then, on Saturday, he collected four assists in the 6-2 victory to give him a two-game tally of six points (1G/5A) and a rating of +4. Other nominees: Jason McAloon (Lake Forest), Cole Gibson (MSOE), Brian Berger (Marian) |

Plenty of storylines remain in place as the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association enters the final month of the regular season. In the Southern Division, Adrian College and MSOE both swept weekend series to remain deadlocked heading down the stretch. The Bulldogs (6-1 and 9-2 winners over Finlandia) and Raiders (2-0 and 4-2 over Lawrence) are now tied at 12-1-1 in MCHA play and, coincidentally, 15-3-1 overall. A head-to-head series to close out the regular season looms the final weekend.
