It is unusual among trophies in that it has the names of all of the winning players, coaches, management, and club staff engraved on its chalice. Originally inscribed the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup, the trophy was donated in 1892 by then-Governor General of Canada the Lord Stanley of Preston. After a series of league mergers and folds, the Cup became the de facto championship trophy of the NHL after the 1925 season. As a player Hrkac hoisted the Cup in 1999 after his Dallas Stars team won the NHL crown, and now area hockey fans will have an up close viewing opportunity. Plans have not been finalized, but it is expected that fans will be allowed to have their pictures taken with the Stanley Cup as part of their game admission fee.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ The MCHA had five teams in action last week, with MSOE earning a 3-2 victory over St. John's in overtime before suffering a 2-1 setback against Bethel. Both the Raiders (receiving votes in D3hockey.com/#11 in USCHO.com) and Adrian (#12/#7) continue to represent the league in the national polls. This week sees just three games on the schedule, with MSOE taking on Hamline and Northland welcoming Concordia (MN) for a two-game series.

Patrick Coyne (Lawrence) Players of the Week -Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders junior forward Jordan Keizer (Edmonton Alberta) is the MCHA Player of the Week. The business major was outstanding killing penalties for MSOE, plus he scored an unassisted shorthanded goal while down two men to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead against St. John's. He also had an assist in Saturday’s game and was + 2 on the weekend.
-Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders senior goalie Connor Toomey (Burlington, MA) claims the MCHA Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in a 1-1-0 week. The construction management major made 24 saves in the 3-2 OT victory and also had 21 stops in a tough 2-1 loss to Bethel for a 2.50 GAA for the week. The award marks the 12th time in his storied career he has been the Defensive Player of the Week.
-Lawrence University Vikings freshman forward Patrick Coyne (Murrysville, PA) is the MCHA Freshman of the Week. Playing just one game last week, he had a hand in each score of the 5-3 loss to Gustavus Adolphus. He assisted LU's first two goals and scored the third in addition to leading the team with 12 hits and finishing +3. |

Plenty of storylines remain in place as the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association enters the final month of the regular season. In the Southern Division, Adrian College and MSOE both swept weekend series to remain deadlocked heading down the stretch. The Bulldogs (6-1 and 9-2 winners over Finlandia) and Raiders (2-0 and 4-2 over Lawrence) are now tied at 12-1-1 in MCHA play and, coincidentally, 15-3-1 overall. A head-to-head series to close out the regular season looms the final weekend.
