The clinching win came down to textbook defense and just enough offense. After a scoreless first period, Adrian drew first blood at 14:51 of the second period. Freshman Shelby Gray scored his 11th goal of the season at even strength with assists from Josh Cousineau and Justin Basso.
The slim lead stood until the game's final 17 seconds when junior captain Andrew Dovey sealed the win with an empty net goal unassisted for his seventh tally of the year. Adrian outshot Finlandia 34-20 and improved to 11-0 all time against the Lions. Scott Shackell posted his second shutout of the season making 20 saves including nine in the third period. Adrian went 0-for-5 on the power play and held Finlandia to 0-for-6 with just seven shots on goal. -Press release courtesy of Adrian College Sports Information Department
League note: Marian University wrapped up the Northern Division title and a first-round bye with a victory over Concordia. For first-round MCHA postseason action, #2 MSOE will host #3 Lake Forest and #2 Lawrence will host #3 Finlandia. Please see the MCHA schedule page for dates and times of contests. |

Plenty of storylines remain in place as the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association enters the final month of the regular season. In the Southern Division, Adrian College and MSOE both swept weekend series to remain deadlocked heading down the stretch. The Bulldogs (6-1 and 9-2 winners over Finlandia) and Raiders (2-0 and 4-2 over Lawrence) are now tied at 12-1-1 in MCHA play and, coincidentally, 15-3-1 overall. A head-to-head series to close out the regular season looms the final weekend.

HANCOCK, Mich. - One for the thumb sounds pretty good for the Adrian College men's hockey team as they captured their fifth straight Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association regular season championship with a 2-0 road win at Finlandia University on Saturday, Feb. 18. This year's team had a huge responsibility to continue the winning tradition and they passed the test with an overall record of 19-5-1 and a 17-2-1 record in the league. For the past five years, Adrian has compiled an outstanding 94-4-2 MCHA regular season record. The Bulldogs will now have a bye as the number one seed in the 2012 Harris Cup playoffs. Adrian will host the Harris Cup Four on March 3-4 at Arrington Ice Arena.
